A painter par excellence. His sensitivity and skill are shown in his series of appropriations in watercolor of dark palette. Esteban Smerdiner’s figurative work has its inflexion point in the encounter with light. It is an arduous process. First, he darkens the canvas and puts the material on it, then wipes it over to thin it down and shape the contours. He introduces us into a world of images hung up in time but loaded with stories and tragedies. There is nothing immaculate.
